Sometimes it seems like character ideas come out of nowhere. You just sit down, pick up a pencil, and suddenly someone’s story appears on paper. That’s how I worked on the characters for our Titanic game. I drew, looked for images, tried to imagine what the people who once actually boarded this legendary ship might have been like.
Creating characters for a game isn’t just about appearance. It’s about character, emotions, what makes them seem alive. I think about what they might have felt, what they dreamed about, what they left behind when they boarded a ship that never reached its destination. And every time it’s like a little journey into the past.
In fact, it’s incredibly interesting to come up with personalities that could have their own little story. Some people went on the Titanic hoping to start a new life, some in search of adventure, and some were just returning home. I am trying to convey this atmosphere of hopes, dreams and, of course, an invisible but tangible connection with real events of the past in the game.
As the ShoSho? team and I continue to work on the project, I am becoming increasingly interested in what will come out in the end. I want the game to become something more than just entertainment. So that, while playing it, you can feel the breath of the era and at least for a moment imagine yourself on that very ship that will forever remain in history.
This is just the beginning, and there is still a lot of work ahead. But you know what is the most pleasant thing? Seeing how a whole world is gradually born from simple sketches on paper.
